Dengue

Dengue fever is a caused by dengue virus spread by tropical borne mosquito.

Dengue is spread by several species of mosquito of the Aedes type dengu virus.

Aedes aegypti is a daytime feeder i.e the peak biting periods are early in the morning and in the evening before dusk.

Signs and Symptoms

  • Dengue affects infants, young children and adults with symptoms appearing 3-14 days after the mosquito bite but usually start within 4 to 7 days of infection, and may last from 7 or 10 days.
  • People infected with dengue virus generally shows mild symptoms such as an uncomplicated fever.
  • Infected person will have fluctuating mild to sudden high fever (as high as 40 °C or 104 °F) with chills effect.
  • Infected person will start having severe headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle ache and severe joint pain, nausea with vomiting or vomit feeling, and in some cases patient will have skin rashes like one has in measles.
  • Severe dehydration will be caused in the body because of dengue.
  • There will be fall in Blood pressure drastically.
  • After getting the blood test done one can see decrease in blood platelet count. Normal platelet counts are between 150,000 to 400,000.
  • Heart beat will go down to 60 counts per minute.
  • Dengue causes damage to the immune system.

Severe dengue (also known as dengue hemorrhagic fever) has symptoms of high fever as mentioned above with abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, bleeding and difficulty in breathing and can have adverse effect mainly children.

Precautions and cure to be taken at home

 

Tulsi or basil leaf 

  • Tulsi herb has all the properties that strengthen the internal system against fever.
  • Boil 5-6 leaves of Tulsi  in 100 ml water till half the quantity is left.
  • Drink it around 2-3 times a day as this will strengthens the body’s defense mechanism.

Neem Leaves

  • Dip neem leaves in fresh water and then drinking the subsequent water.
  • It increases both blood platelet count and white blood cell count, two of the most dangerous side effects of the virus.
  • Properly brewed neem leaves can improve the immune system and return your strength much faster in case of dengue.

Papaya Leaves

  • Papaya leaves are widely known as being a natural cure for dengue fever.
  • 2 raw papaya leaves are pounded, and they are squeezed with a cloth to strain and filter the juice.
  • One leaf gives one tablespoonful of juice and two tablespoonfuls of papaya juice is sufficient for a day.

Barley Grass

  • One can drink barley tea or juice or can even eat barley grass directly.
  • It rapidly increases platelet count, which is one of the more serious side effects of dengue fever.
